The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, received 500,000 decampees into the party in Katsina state, just as it said the party was stronger and set to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), from power in 2019.
The decampees were received during the PDP North West Zonal Rally held in Katsina, at the state PDP secretariat on Saturday.
Those received were Nasiru Kankia former state APC Treasurer, Mustapha Radda, former youth Vanguard Coordinator for Governor Aminu Masari, Senator Yakubu Lada, former PDM gubernatorial aspirant, Umar Tata, 2015 governorship aspirant under APGA, among others.
The PDP stalwarts who graced the occasion were, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former PDP Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Shehu Shema, former Governor of Katsina state, Dr. Sule Lamido of Jigawa state.
Others were Dr. Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, former Governor of Sokoto state, Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti state Governor, among staunch members of PDP in the country.
Receiving the decampees, Prince Uche Secondus, the party’s National Chairman, said the decampees’ decision to decamped to his party was informed by the “misrule and one-sided corruption fight” of the ruling APC in the country.
The PDP national chairman reaffirmed that his party would defeat APC in Katsina state come 2019, stressing that Katsina is the home of PDP.
His words, “APC came with crisis at all levels. The party brought hunger in the country. We will bring food to our country and avert hunger in the state and the country as a whole in 2019”.
According to him the decampees would be treated equally with the old members of PDP, enjoining them to endeavour to follow the party’s constitution and be guided by the laws of PDP.
“We have reviewed the state of the party and re-evaluated the situation, state by state, and we found out that the party is stronger than it was.
“And as I speak, stalwarts and thousands of members of other political parties, starting from APC, all the way down to APGA, are on their way to the PDP, Secondus said.
